David Gillian is a leading expert in intelligence and cross-functional team building. As a retired Brigadier, David was one of the Australian Army's most senior intelligence professionals and military officers. He served as the Deputy Chief of Intelligence in Afghanistan, during the command of General Stan McChrystal. He also served at the Pentagon as the Personal Liaison Officer for the Chief of the Australian Defence Force to the Chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff.
A decorated combat veteran, David led troops in Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, East Timor, and Papua New Guinea. Throughout his career, David has specialized in establishing and leading new types of intelligence organizations, with a focus on identifying and applying the skills and experience of specialist organizations and individuals. He has also focused on building multi-agency, cross-functional teams designed to achieve operational success in highly fluid and evolving environments.
David is currently a Partner at McChrystal Group, where he develops new client engagements and oversees some of the firm’s most established engagements.
He now speaks to organizations on the lessons learned from Special Operations’ transformation to adapt to their complex environment, while sharing stories of how the team of teams approach has been successful in businesses. David's engaging keynotes or presentations lead participants through a conversation on possible tools or strategies that could add value as their organizations move to operate more as a team of teams.
