Ash Alexander-Cooper is a Partner in McChrystal Group's London, England office, where he focuses on expanding the firm’s offerings and developing relationships with European clients. Recognizing that companies today are experiencing parallels to what he and his colleagues faced in combat, Ash helps leaders build the skills necessary to re-think the hierarchical approach to organizational management and leadership.
Ash retired from the British Army after 22 years’ service, having spent 82 months deployed on operations in complex and hostile environments, primarily in Central Asia, the Middle East, the Balkans, and Northern Ireland. During his defense career, Ash worked in a plethora of strategy, policy, diplomatic and liaison roles, specializing in airborne, jungle, aviation, and counter-terrorist operations, and has been part of the Team of Teams journey since its inception in 2003. With a focus on leader development, talent management, and team-building solutions, Ash draws upon lessons learned from managing diverse multi-national military, civilian, government, and other elite teams.
As a Specialist Military Unit Colonel, his experience includes commanding NATO specialist elements charged with mentoring Afghanistan's 6,000 special police. Additionally, Ash spent several years as a Senior Special Advisor to the Afghan Ministry of Interior, directing command and control of local and coalition units during major terrorist incidents. Among his international honors and awards, Ash was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2015.
Ash holds a Master’s degree from the Australian National University; a Bachelor of Arts (with Honors) from University College, London; a Certificate in Business Administration from Georgetown University; and is a graduate of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. In addition to his military credentials, Ash has extensive elite team experience, having represented Great Britain in three different sports at world championship level, and is an international award-winning musician.
