Meet JP

JP McGee joined McChrystal Group as president, partnering with senior leaders across industries to help them navigate disruption, sharpen strategy, and build more resilient, higher-performing teams. 

Previously, JP served as Director of Strategy, Plans and Policy on the Joint Staff, where he played a pivotal role in advising the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, senior civilian national security leaders, and combatant commanders on key international security issues. He frequently represented the Joint Staff at National Security Council meetings and served as Chair of a 14-nation international security organization.

JP is known for his strategic insight, communications skill, and cyber operations expertise, with an ability to align talent, technology, and strategy to drive results. As Director of the Army's Talent Management Task Force, he pioneered data-driven initiatives to identify, develop, select, and retain the Army's highest-performing leaders, and established the Commander Assessment Program, replacing a simple paper review with a rigorous five-day assessment of cognitive, psychological, and physical performance.

Throughout his military career, JP commanded organizations across conventional, special operations, and cyber domains, with extensive experience leading small, agile teams in the special operations community. He most recently served as Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division and Deputy Commanding General of U.S. Army Cyber Command. With 11 overseas combat deployments to Haiti, Afghanistan, and Iraq, JP is one of the most versatile and combat-tested leaders of his generation, with a proven ability to find unique, effective solutions to ambiguous and complex problems.

JP is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, earned his master's degree from Central Michigan University, and served as a National Security Fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution.
