Meet Dan

Dan Dworkis, MD, PhD FACEP, is a Senior Advisor at McChrystal Group, where he works with leaders and organizations on decision-making, team performance, and resilience under pressure.

Dan is a board-certified emergency physician and a scientist with a core focus on complex systems in crisis. He serves as an Adjunct Senior Physician Policy Researcher at The RAND Corporation and the Chief Medical Officer of the Mission Critical Team Institute. His research centers on how individuals, teams, and systems make critical decisions in emergencies, with a particular focus on the gap between how systems perform in training and how they perform when conditions are most demanding. His work draws on frameworks from complexity science, naturalistic decision making, and resilience engineering, applied across domains where failure is not an option. He is the author of The Emergency Mind: Wiring Your Brain for Performance Under Pressure, host of The Emergency Mind Podcast, and a columnist for Psychology Today.
