Meet Milford,

Lieutenant General (Ret.) Milford H. “Beags” Beagle Jr. is a Senior Advisor at McChrystal Group and an executive leader who helps organizations navigate complexity, develop leaders, strengthen teams, and translate strategy into execution. Drawing on 35 years of experience leading large, complex organizations, he advises leaders facing transformation, organizational change, strategic alignment, and environments where the path forward is unclear. 

Most recently, Beags served as Commanding General of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, where he led the Army’s enterprise for leader development, professional military education, doctrine, training, and organizational learning. He oversaw an $800 million annual budget, the education and development of more than 200,000 personnel annually, and modernization and integration efforts affecting an Army of approximately 1.5 million people. In this role, he helped translate emerging strategic and operational requirements into the doctrine, education, training, and leader development necessary to prepare the Army for future challenges.

Previously, as Commanding General of the 10th Mountain Division, Beags led a 20,000-person organization responsible for maintaining readiness for global operations in demanding and rapidly changing environments. As Commanding General of Fort Jackson, the Army’s largest basic training center, he led an organization responsible for transforming thousands of civilians each year into disciplined members of the profession while strengthening the systems, leaders, and culture responsible for their development. He also served as a strategic advisor at the Pentagon supporting the Army’s Vice Chief of Staff and held operational leadership assignments in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Korea. 

Across these roles, Beags developed deep expertise in executive leadership, organizational transformation, leader development, strategic planning, decision-making under uncertainty, and aligning people and organizations around shared purpose and priorities. He is particularly experienced in helping leaders understand how culture, communication, trust, and organizational systems influence execution and performance at scale.

Beags believes effective leadership is less about having certainty than creating the clarity people need to move forward. Today, he brings that perspective to executives and organizations confronting growth, transformation, and complexity, helping leaders strengthen alignment, improve decision-making, develop high-performing teams, and build organizations capable of adapting when conditions change.

Beags earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from South Carolina State University, a Master of Science in Adult and Continuing Education from Kansas State University, and a master’s degree from the U.S. Army School of Advanced Military Studies. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Leadership Studies at Louisiana State University Shreveport.
