Meet Nathan
Nathan Larsen is a Senior Associate on McChrystal Group's Implementation Team. He brings experience in human intelligence with the military and intelligence community, in addition to time in corporate strategy consulting. He’s worked closely with key decision-makers to tackle complex issues in both the government and private sector.
What did you do before joining McChrystal Group?
I spent 4 years on active duty in the Army doing human intelligence work, gathering key information, briefing senior military leaders, and producing intelligence reports covering the Pacific theater to answer national intelligence and security requirements. I spent 5+ years as a civilian intelligence officer in the DC area working with several major agencies, including the Defense Intelligence Agency, an FBI-led counter-intelligence task force, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. I helped manage global operations and provided timely insights to key government decision-makers.
After finishing my MBA, I spent three years doing commercial strategy consulting for banking and insurance clients. I led large-scale data transformation projects, including building out an online banking platform and overhauling software development practices in major overseas markets for an international insurance firm.
Why did you join McChrystal Group?
I'm drawn to the mission and the high quality of people in this organization. I was looking for a place where I can do challenging and fulfilling work while building real camaraderie and rapport with my colleagues.
What sport or hobby do you have outside of work?
I played Division I football in college, and I train boxing now to stay in shape and take on a new challenge. I enjoy traveling and spending time outside; I’m at my best hiking in the mountains, in the ocean, or relaxing on a quiet lake. I’m grateful for any opportunity to take in live music or see the Caps play in person.
Why ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT LEADERS & TEAMS?
Good leaders and teams have a unique way to bring out the best qualities in people, which in turn leads to groups that are better than the sum of their parts. I'm passionate about creating atmospheres where people can truly learn, grow, and thrive while taking on challenges and building meaningful and lasting relationships.
WhAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE BOOKS?
My favorites include The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Foundation series, The Killer Angels, and writings from ancient Stoic philosophers.
