Meet Walker

Walker Carter is a Senior Principal in McChrystal Group's Implementation Practice, where he helps organizations operate more effectively by encouraging leaders to develop and align their organizational strategy, then putting in place sustainable approaches to executing on that strategy through people, process, and technology.

What did you do before joining McChrystal Group?

Before joining McChrystal Group, I worked for Hogan Lovells, one of the largest international law firms, where I worked across their Washington DC and London headquarters to plan, prioritize, and execute major operational and technology investments in collaboration with the Global COO, the CHRO, the CISO, and the CIO. Before joining Hogan Lovells, I spent more than 15 years at PwC in its Global Advisory Operations Division harmonizing operations and investments across its 157 member firms. Prior to my global role, I worked for the US CFO to facilitate her Management Committee after serving in multiple leadership roles within firm operations, IT, and client service.

Why did you join McChrystal Group?

I was introduced to McChrystal Group when I served as Chief of Staff to my previous firm's CFO and was also attending graduate school. The founders of McChrystal Group presented their Team of Team's methodology to my class. Seeing their novel approach to leadership in a networked world was so compelling that I immediately tried to engage them on my firm's behalf. While it didn't work out that time, I kept in touch. When an opportunity to join McChrystal Group presented itself ten years later, I jumped at it!

What has been your proudest moment at McChrystal Group?

Getting the opportunity to work with a smart, dynamic, and experienced group of people - many of whom served our country with distinction - is a privilege every day. My proudest moment to date has been the delivery of a comprehensive strategic plan to improve population health outcomes for a US state in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Why are you passionate about leaders & teams?

I believe leadership is the secret sauce that determines success or failure. Leadership does not always look exactly the same, but it is easy to tell when it's there and when it isn't.
